The Hallé Choir is looking for experienced singers to sing Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius this summer.
If you love singing, have some experience of sight-reading (you don't have to be note perfect first time), but haven't got the time to do it all year round or are already busy singing with another choir, then this project is for you. The Hallé Choir begins rehearsals in mid-May for a performance and recording of Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius in July, and is looking for experienced singers to come and join the Hallé for this project.
Concert and Recording
The concert, conducted by
Mark Elder, will take place in The Bridgewater Hall on
Thursday 17 July 2008, with internationally-renowned soloists
Bryn Terfel,
Alice Coote and
Paul Groves. The performance will then be recorded at The Bridgewater Hall on the following two days. The recording will be released at a later date on the Hallé's own CD label.
Rehearsals
Led by James Burton, Hallé Choral Director, you will be put through your paces, working on expression, technique, musicality and performance, as well as the notes, in preparation for the concert and recording. You can expect rehearsals to be intense, rewarding and fun and they will be held in venues close to Manchester City Centre.
Auditions
There will be a
series of auditions throughout April, in time for the first rehearsal on
Saturday 17 May 2008. You will be asked to prepare a short extract from
Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius -
James Burton will accompany you while you sing the extract, and then you will be asked to sing some vocal exercises. Finally you will be asked to sing a short piece of music from sight.
